THE INNER WING

Nannies, milkmaids, seamstresses, cooks, laundresses, ironers, kitchen helpers, housekeepers and domestic servants. In the homes of the oligarchic families of Buenos Aires in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many women, adolescents and girls lived and worked. Their lives were completely tied and subordinated to the needs of their employers. Their religious practices, their emotions and life experiences, their inner needs and their relationships took place in the intimate space of those they served. This vocal piece works with an historical archive of newspapers advertisements and employments agencies documents from the 1870s to the 1930s that give an account of a memory of bodies and a history of care and violence.
